Vehicle Checks Before Use

We offer bespoke training in vehicle checks tailored to your vehicle make and model. It is essential that you are confident that your staff have the ability to inspect a vehicle before use. They must be able to carry out thorough vehicle checks on your fleet items, regardless of the variety of vehicles used.

Guidance can also be given on your establishment’s breakdown and accident procedures. This will have been agreed with you before the training begins, and this process is normally included in the classroom session as well as the practical section.  Being competent in checking tyre condition, engine fluid levels, washer wipers and vehicles electrics is a legal requirement before taking the vehicle onto the highway. Passenger lift use and equipment checks also fall into this category along with passenger seat removal and re-fitment.

Travel and overnight costs will be applied if outside of Leicestershire

Car and MPV

Training and Assessment on Your Vehicle Plus Safe Carriage of Wheelchair Users.
This course has been developed to assist those regularly or occasionally carrying a wheelchair user by car. The course content is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual(s) concerned.

Typically the course content includes the legal obligations of carrying a wheelchair user, the types of lifts available (and how to use them), how to securely fix a wheelchair to the vehicle, best practice on wheelchair users getting in and out of the vehicle.

Where the delegate(s) have access to a wheelchair accessible car, then we prefer to provide the training using their own vehicle and equipment, and we can offer training at your venue. This helps us to ensure that the course is specific to the circumstances of the particular vehicle and driver(s) concerned. Where applicable, the trainer will also be able to give advice on whether you have the correct/sufficient equipment for safely transporting a wheelchair user.

We don’t publish a set of training dates for this course as we prefer to schedule the course dates to meet the needs of the delegate(s). This flexibility enables us to run courses on a weekend, as well as during the week. Those completing the course are issued with a Certificate confirming that they have received the training.

Trailer towing is something that we may be able to offer if you have the appropriate sized trailer and towing vehicle along with a suitable sized area to practice in before venturing onto the highway

Training and Assessment on Vehicle Fire Evacuation

5 Steps to Safety - Minibus Fire Evacuation
This is normally a half day course for up to 12 staff members, depending on the size of the vehicle used (16 to 53 seater vehicles can be used).

This training consists of a theory session (PowerPoint presentation) held in a classroom lasting approximately 1.5 hours and then moving outside to the vehicle for the practical section. Staff are placed into the vehicle provided which is then filled with artificial smoke (theatrical smoke).

Several scenarios are played out such as the driver being unconscious forcing the escort/passenger assistant to evacuate the vehicle on their own; others may be to ask the staff to panic and cause a disruption to the evacuation process. All of these scenarios are carried out whilst the vehicle is full of smoke, making it very difficult to find door handles and escape routes etc.

Travel and overnight costs will also be applied if outside of Leicestershire
